Quack and Daisy Beyond the Meadow by Aileen Stewart is a cute little book. Daisy the kitten and Quack the duck are the best of friends. They both live in a meadow. Quack’s mother always told her never to leave the meadow. One day Quack decides to disobey her mother and venture outside the meadow. The lesson in this story is to listen to your parents.

I chose to read Quack and Daisy Beyond the Meadow with my 5-year-old daughter because she loves ducks and kittens. My daughter liked the story just because of Stewart’s characters. The illustrations are colorful and completely adorable. The wording in the story is not too difficult and my daughter was able to read most of it herself.

Quack and Daisy did learn their lesson all by themselves. However, I thought that Quack’s mother would have at least found out that Quack disobeyed her by leaving the meadow, but the mother never knew. I felt the message from the story came across as a little light. Quack getting hit on the head with a can was scary. My daughter was worried about her and was wondering why someone would throw a can at her head. When I read a children’s book, it is my daughter’s opinion that matters the most to me. Overall, she liked the book and even asked to read it again the next night for bedtime.
