Ransom is the third book in the Tip of the Spear Series by Belle Ami, a fascinating meld of romance and thriller with hints of suspense. With an enticing political and physical setting in the Middle East, this thriller follows a complex conflict. Mossad Agent Cyrus Hassani has just succeeded in stopping a nuclear threat at Three Mile Island and in rescuing his wife, Layla. However, he has little time to reconnect with his wife because the head of Mossad wants him to stop a Hezbollah plot to destroy Israel with an Electromagnetic Pulse attack. Can he succeed in a mission with a traitor working from within his own agency?
While the narrative follows a compelling protagonist, Belle Ami creates endearing minor characters and a subplot that makes the narrative even more gripping. Zara Zayani is a journalist for Le Figaro and an undercover French DGSE who is enlisted by her lover in Mossad to negotiate a prisoner exchange between Hezbollah and Israel. But she falls in love with the one man who is the threat that is about to destroy Israel. Can she stop Mustafa’s deadly plot and keep the attraction between them?
Ransom is fast paced and deftly plotted and readers can’t help but be thrilled by the depth of the characters, the strong conflict, and the drama that accompanies the skillfully developed romance. I loved the way the author navigates the political conflict between the powerful entities in the narrative and how the world of the Middle East comes alive in this story. The writing is atmospheric and the narrative cinematic. You will feel as though you have just watched a great movie when you turn the last page of this thriller.
