In her novel, Rapunzel’s Tower, Wendy L. Anderson dreamily invites us into another world filled with magic, adventure, and true love. Most of us are familiar with the story of Rapunzel and her long golden hair. There are different versions of how it came about that she was locked in the tower. There are also a few different stories of how the prince rescued Rapunzel. This version is my favorite so far. Two princes, rivals for Rapunzel’s love, have to use their wits to get to the top of the tower. Which one will win her heart and rescue the princess? Which one will Rapunzel choose as her one true love to spend her happily ever after with?

Wow! One thousand times wow! From the very first sentence of Rapunzel's Tower by Wendy L. Anderson, I was wholly enchanted by the pages of this book. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. Any short absence had me craving more, like the sweet touch of my true love. I journeyed from the bottom of the magical tower to the top alongside the two princes. I shared their joys as well as their sorrows. Even though the legend of Rapunzel is considered fantasy, the new telling of this story tied old myths together. Even though this book is recommended for young adults, I would steer clear of younger children with this story. Some of the descriptions of injuries have you closing your eyes while taking a sharp breath. A day after finishing the book, I found myself still drifting back to the tower doors. For me, that is a symptom I will gladly endure as proof of reading the perfect book!
