Red Sand by Ronan Cray is a thriller and a mystery story. The cruise ship Princess Anne sinks in the middle of the Atlantic. The survivors are taken by the natives to an island where they are forced to work. The survivors start disappearing one by one and the natives also begin to fear for their lives. The island soon turns hostile and everyone starts fearing each other.

It is one of the best thriller and adventure stories I have read in recent times. When you think the action is over and take a sigh of relief, another adventure happens. The book is fast paced, and filled with mystery, suspense, intrigue, betrayal, and fear. There is a sense of urgency in the narration that adds to the pace of the story. The author's expertise in handling such a theme comes to the fore. The storm, the sinking ship, the monstrous sea, and the fragility and vulnerability of the characters are excellent.

Red Sand is complete in all aspects. The backdrop of the sea and an island add to the scenic effects. The narration is also wonderfully descriptive with a lot of detail about the natural environment.

The book comes up with the unexpected. What you expect is not what the author gives you. He makes the reader go through unexpected twists and turns, keeps you on your seat's edge, and just when you start relaxing and breathing normally, something else will come out of the blue to give you a jolt.
