A woman visiting her North Carolina family is brushed off by the small town's law enforcement when she claims to witness a beast, fitting the description of a local urban legend, mauling her father and brother in the spine-chilling supernatural novel, Return to Porter's Hollow by Yvonne Schuchart. Just as Laura Evans finally connects with her long-absent father, she watches in horror as her Uncle Curry rips the life from him. Laura shoots her uncle, but despite her efforts to maim him, he escapes. Believing Laura to be distraught, the Sheriff disregards her account of the inexplicable events that transpired during the savage scuffle that took her father's life and sends her home. Twelve days later, Laura receives a letter from her uncle threatening her aunt; at the same time visions of murdered young girls begin haunting her. Because the Sheriff's office isn't taking Laura's statement seriously and all their leads have reached a dead end, the case is stalemated, leaving Laura's aunt and the inhabitants in the rural area in danger. Laura's visions are the only clues to Curry's whereabouts and, with lives in jeopardy, Laura returns to Porter's Hollow to follow her otherworldly messengers and face her past, present, and future.
