Author Biography

I have had a lifelong love of poetry and am keen to inspire this love in the younger generation. I started writing quite late in life and as I am fast approaching my 80th birthday, I thought I'd better get on with it! 'Riverside Tales' is the result.

I needed quite a bit of help with the technology to release this self published book but I am really pleased with the outcome. The book has also received some excellent reviews on Amazon.

'Riverside Tales' is the first book I have written. I have contributed to other books released by the local writers group based in Cwmbran, South Wales, UK. I have also entered poems in local competitions and in 2009, I was 'Poet of Pontypool'.

I almost forgot to mention - I have a long suffering husband, 3 children, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren!

"Riverside Tales: The Adventures of of Franky and Mousey" by Audrey Donoghue is a collection of 16 poems based on Frank the rat and Mousey the field mouse. The rhyming poems are amusing and full of fun and mirth. The bright and colorful illustrations is a bonus. They actually capture the two characters Franky and Mousey very well, and convey a lot about the story. I enjoyed this poetry collection. As is tradition, the poet writes rhyming poems. There is something between rhyming poetry and children. Children prefer to read rhyming poems more as they start reading. She manages to have a storyline to it where the poems begin with Franky running into Mousey and till they grow old together, which is an innovative thought. It motivates children who want to indulge in writing poetry. It is important to introduce poetry reading to kids at a very early age so that they will develop a liking for that. Rhyming poems and poems with illustrations are the ideal way to do that. This book is just that.

"Riverside Tales: The Adventures of Franky and Mousey" evokes a lot of emotions within you. The author has written it with a lot of humor so that children love them. It is also a way to encourage them to try writing short rhyming poems. Franky and Mousey manage to stay in the hearts of the readers. The poems are also educational. In a way they introduce children to rhyming words and poetic language. And it is also an inspiration for adults who want to write poems for kids.
