Author Biography

Shana Gorian is the author of the Rosco the Rascal series, in which a sometimes rascally German shepherd uses his true heroic nature to help his pals, James and Mandy, find adventure and overcome obstacles.

Originally from Western Pennsylvania, Shana has lived in Southern California for 20 years. She lives with her husband and two children, and their German shepherd, Rugger, the real Rosco the Rascal.

Shana grew up in western Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning her Bachelor of Arts in English Writing in 1994. After migrating to the West Coast in 1995, Shana attended San Diego City College, where she trained as a graphic designer. Working in web site design for nearly a decade, she then left the workforce to raise her children full time. But she always wanted to venture back to her love of the written word and try her hand at fiction. Ten years into motherhood, she published her first children's book.

Shana is an avid lover of the great outdoors, of finding weekend fun and adventure with her husband and children, and of the humorous ways that her great big dog behaves. She is always searching for more stories!

Rosco the Rascal In the Land of Snow by Shana Gorian is the heartwarming story of Rosco the German Shepherd. Set against the backdrop of a snowy land, this story has humor, adventure and drama and will keep readers entertained till the very end. Roscoe has never seen snow and readers see Roscoe going for a family vacation to the mountains. There, along with the children in his family, James and Mandy, they get involved with the problems of another pup. The log cabin, mountains, snow and suspense make it an exciting read for children. The snowman, snow and winter season add to the magic of the story.

The book captures the essence and chills of the winter season. The main characters are adorable and they stay in the minds of readers for a long time. Children will enjoy Roscoe and the mischief he creates. It's a good bedtime storybook and is also good for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The illustrations are beautiful and capture the beauty of the winter season nicely. The pictures also give pace and movement to the scenes and breathe life into the characters of the story.

All animal lovers will enjoy reading the story which also has a good message. Children learn about the beauty of nature with the help of the author's vivid descriptions of the surroundings. Children will definitely look forward to more adventures from Roscoe the Rascal after reading this story.

This is my 9 year old son's review. "I received this book in a giveaway in exchange for writing a review; It is a heart warming story. I love that there was a mystery and that the story is good for a boy or a girl because the two main characters are a boy and a girl . I liked that the book had multiple chapters that left us with cliffhangers making us want to read on and on. I would recommend this book to a 6-10 year old."

Elementary Reading Specia

After writing a review on Rosco the Rascal Visits the Pumpkin Patch, I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. What I love about these books are they are age appropriate. Too many children's chapter books address issues outside the schema of innocent minds in young children. The Rosco series is safe to read with primary grade children. Rosco the Rascal In the Land of Snow, by Shana Gorian, will appeal to elementary school students who love dogs and adventures. This Winter story is a great read aloud or a fun story for small reading groups in grades 1-4. This new children's series follows a sister and brother as they experience adventures with their dog Rosco. Wrap up in a blanket and enjoy a cup of cocoa as you travel to the snow filled mountains for a weekend adventure.

This book was easy enough for him to read and comprehend on his own and had the perfect amount of suspense and adventure. The illustrations are amazing and are a great way to break up the story for beginning chapter book readers. He keeps asking when the next book will be here.

The story between Rosco the German Shepherd and his interaction with his family is heart warming and sincere. They go up to the mountains to have a family vacation and come to find out the children (James and Mandy) along with their dog work together to solve a problem about a coyote pup. I could imagine the description of the setting and characters. They were well written and a elementary student could relate to the family and their beloved dog. The plot flowed with ease. This book paints a good picture of what a winter vacation up in the mountains would actually be like. I would recommend Rosco The Rascal in the Land of Snow to any young reader who cares about animals and family. It has a good message too.
