Rosco The Rascal Visits The Pumpkin Patch by Shana Gorian is a fun chapter book celebrating Autumn. Rosco, a lovable and mischievous German Shepherd puppy, joins his family on their annual visit to the pumpkin patch. Rosco swears he'll be good on his very first trip to pick a pumpkin. But how good is good? It is very hard to remember to be good with so many new sights, smells, and sounds! Join Rosco as he meets his first grumpy goose, a couple of Halloween bullies, and an elusive bunny. When Rosco gets separated from his family, deep within a corn maze, he learns that he is braver than he ever knew. Rosco also learns that, no matter how small a person may be, with a little courage and teamwork even little people can do big things!

I loved reading this book. It was a cute story and the characters were relatable. The adventures Rosco experiences and the trouble he got himself into made for funny moments. Rosco The Rascal Visits The Pumpkin Patch by Shana Gorian has hidden story gems; lessons on bullying, standing up for what is right, unselfishness, and teamwork. I loved how family members James and Mandy pulled together in a crisis and helped save a little boy at their own expense.

It is the perfect book for children ages 6-9. It has enough pictures to keep the younger reader interested. Its short chapters were long enough to make the young reader feel accomplished in reading them, yet short enough to keep the reader's interest. I liked how the author included a lesson in the story. I hope to read more Rosco the Rascal books in the future.

This is a cute and fun story all ages can enjoy. Meet the McKendrick family. Mom, Dad, ten year old James, seven year old Mandy and of course Roscoe, their German Shepherd dog. Roscoe has a bit of a problem following orders sometimes, but it seems he always finds a way to save the day. This tale takes readers into a pumpkin patch, a corn maze and more harvest time fun. The illustrations are well done and add to this fun story that is enjoyable to read alone or out loud so all can enjoy.

As a British adult, I have to confess that I have never been to a farm to pick a pumpkin for Halloween. After reading this fun book, I now want to! Even for kids in families that do get to go on such an annual outing, I'm sure that following along with Rosco and his human family, and enjoying the entertainment as their day unfolds, will make anticipating the big day even more exciting.

This isn't a scary Halloween story, so it is perfect for kids who want to read or listen to a story about the season without risking nightmares.

I particularly liked the way that the author explained things from Rosco the dog's point of view, and I'm sure this will encourage kids (and adults) to empathise more with their own pets, and to better understand that the animal may not simply be being naughty when they don't behave exactly how we might want them to.

Rosco's antics had me smiling. He may be a rascal, but he always means well, and he always tries his best to behave for his owners. As he bounces from chasing pumpkins, herding sheep, a hay ride with strangers, and a trip through a corn maze with his young owners, Mandy and James, Rosco even gets the chance to help save the day and rescue a young boy!

After a day filled with exciting activities, the family finally head off to choose their pumpkins. We now learn that they are not just after any pumpkin. Mr. McKendrick has big ideas for Halloween, and is an expert pumpkin carver. An enormous pumpkin is needed, to allow him to show off his skills to the whole neighbourhood.

Great Halloween fun for young animal lovers. Highly recommended.

I entered a contest and won a copy of this book. I previewed the book because I will be giving it to my nine-year-old granddaughter. She is now beginning to read chapter books. This story of the McKendrick family's trip to a farm complete with a corn maze, petting zoo, pony rides, pumpkin patch and hayrides is an exact replica of the farm trip I took my granddaughter on last fall. She and her younger brother had a wonderful time and this story not only will be a vivid reminder of that wonderful experience, but she will learn from the family and their dog, Rosco. The story follows the kids around the farm and highlights some of the misadventures of Rosco as he accompanies them some of the time and runs off every now and then. Kids will learn to stand up to the bullies and take care of their friends by following James and Mandy in the corn maze. These beautiful characters are willing to give up their prize for completing the maze in order to help another child who has been hurt at the hands of the bullies terrorizing the corn maze. This is a wonderful discussion book for parents and I urge them to read it right along with their children.
