Scholar: Chronicles of the New Realm, Book Two by Dmitri Talanov is a magical story wrapped in adventure and fantasy that will keep readers glued to the pages till the very end. Phale Fe begins his education at the Alexa. This was earlier a government prison, now cleansed of its inmates by the Emperor Flavius, and turned into a school. Used to living a life amid suspense, intrigue and the demons, Phale Fe realizes the school has a lot of secrets. He gets into trouble and that is enough to reveal the hidden mysteries of the Empire and threaten the lives of all those he loves.

This book is for everyone and the author's fluid writing style and imagination make it a fast paced and a fun read. The wonderful imagery is an add-on to the magical feel of the book. I found the presence of the yuka tree fantastical and it's difficult not to love it. All the other characters in the story complement Phale Fe very nicely and, along with the twists, turns and intrigue in the plot, make it a compelling read. The illustrations, the characters, the emotions and the conflicts in the book, along with its mystery and intrigue, are refreshing. The author manages to grab readers' attention by putting his characters into some tense and hopeless situations, adding to the challenges in the plot. This story of demons, fantasy and intrigue is definitely an entertaining and engaging read.
