In his book Scientific Spirituality, Dr. Howard Jeffrey Bender connects spirituality with science using logic and knowledge from various fields: biology, physics, chemistry, anthropology, astronomy, theology, to name just a few. Starting from the premise that the spirit may live forever, Dr. Bender carries the reader through scientific evidence that might explain miracles, the idea of God or Gods and the existence of the essence, which is both timeless and immortal. The book tackles concepts like reincarnation or the paranormal, for example, from both the spiritual and scientific points of view. Further chapters explore the biology of living things, physical, functional and emotional aspects of the brain and how the physical body, culture, habitat and essence communicate with each other. The book finishes with notes and references, demonstrating the extensive research behind the book.

I enjoyed reading Scientific Spirituality by Dr. Howard Jeffrey Bender for its holistic approach to the subject. It is intellectually challenging at times and it requires an open mind for both spiritual and scientific people, but the language is coherent. I also liked the humorous approach at times, saving the book from being too serious while making it accessible to a wider audience. My favourite chapter was the one in which the author discusses the idea of God from different perspectives and how it could be explained scientifically. I also appreciated the references throughout the book that can be the starting point for further research, should readers want to delve deeper into some aspects of the book that caught their interest.
