"Season of Play" is a book written in fun rhyme about what wonderful excitement children get involved in to keep themselves busy when they are not in school. The book starts out in the summer when children are home on vacation.

This was a treat to read especially in a world where IPods and computer games fill every space in a child's life. This book had none of that. Take away all the electronics and see what your child can rig up for entertainment. "Season of Play" stresses how important riding a bike, having a picnic, looking for fire-flies and playing board games can be. Exercise is so important for growing children. There is nothing like holding a real book and turning its pages. I think the author Debra Benedetti depicted very well that a child's life should be carefree and not too heavily scheduled. When my own children were young I always gave two weeks each summer as complete free time: time to dream, time to recharge, with no deadlines.

A great story starter for reminiscing over and telling your child things you did when you were a youngster. The illustrations are crayon-like and accompany the story very nicely. The colors are bright and have a lot of action going on. Classic outdoor games from yesteryear are given at the end of the story, including Hopscotch, Basic Tag, Hide and Seek, Swing the Statue, Miss Brown, Early in the Morning and many more.
