In Seeking Dr. Magic, strange creatures called Phantom Ninjas by the media are causing chaos around the world. Detective Tony Hetfield, a former FBI agent turned private investigator, comes up with a theory that magic is involved, and names the responsible person as Dr. Magic. A strange young man makes himself known to Hetfield – is he the one that the detective is looking for? This modern fantasy story is written by Scott Spotson.

The Phantom Ninjas captured my attention from the get go. I also like the protagonist Tony Hetfield, a private investigator who truly enjoys his moments in the limelight. He is not the type of sleuth that I prefer, nevertheless his brilliance and arrogance are entertaining and enjoyable to read. On the other hand, I do have a bit of admiration for Dr. Magic, despite him being morally corrupt. He brings out the best in Hetfield and I applaud Scott Spotson for being able to create two important characters that complement each other very well.

The action scenes are great and they even have this cinematic quality that would look incredible if this book is turned into a movie. The plot is original and interesting. The pacing of the story is good, although it has some slow moments, which did affect the flow of the story line here and there. All in all, Seeking Dr. Magic is an easy, quick read. The combination of mystery, magic, and action makes it effortless for young adults and mature readers to enjoy it.
