Settled on a Mountain is a work of fiction in the interpersonal drama subgenre and serves as the third installment in the Love is a Cabin series. It is suitable for the general adult reading audience and was penned by author Jacque Jacobs. The book follows protagonist Bella Anderson as she questions her decision to move back to her family home following the death of a family friend and the rise in crime in the area. The roots she has started to put down in the community could be enough to keep her in the mountains of Tennessee, but the decision isn’t an easy one to make.

This book is an accessible and delightful love letter to the lifestyle enjoyed by those who live in the mountains. The picturesque world and serene way of life draw the reader into the world of the book and invest them in the story in a way that they wouldn’t without author Jacque Jacobs’s gorgeous descriptive writing. Bella remains an excellent protagonist for a drama in this style; constantly aware enough of both the allure of mountain living and its shortcomings in such a way that the life she is living is made appealing but grounded in realism. The links to the other characters in the community around her are where the heart of Settled on a Mountain lies. It is within these interactions that we see the heartwarming moments that keep Bella invested in her living situation and come to understand the appeal of a small tight-knit community over the loneliness of a city crowd.

Settled on a Mountain, Book 3 in the Love is a Cabin series by Jacque Jacobs, did not disappoint. I was anxiously waiting for a chance to read more about Bella, Sheriff Chad, and restaurant owner Carla along with the other friends living in the Smoky Mountain community. Bella is settling into Drelag Cabin, the home that has been in her family for over a hundred years when Joe Johnson, a man who was her father’s childhood friend, is murdered in his grocery/general store. Bella, Chad, and Carla now have to support and comfort Joe’s son, Joshua, and help him get over the pain of suddenly losing his loving father. Sheriff Chad is also dealing with several police issues while falling in love with Bella. There is a lot going on but attention is still given to the beauty of the mountains and the joys of living in a small town atmosphere where a neighbor is always ready to help another neighbor.

Settled on a Mountain is a stand-alone book but books one and two are a must-read. Jacque Jacobs has written a heartwarming series that has a little bit of everything needed to make it a winner. There is romance, mystery, murder, friendship, community, and oh so much more. I cannot urge you strongly enough to put this series on the top of your reading list. I found it easy to feel as though Bella, Chad, Josh, and Carla were my very own friends and I was sharing right along in their adventures. Settled on a Mountain and Jacque Jacobs are winners in every way possible and you will not be disappointed when you read this very special story. Can't wait to read book 4!

Settled on a Mountain by Jacque Jacobs covers the murder of a beloved man in a small community in the Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Joe's death was a robbery that went wrong, but was there more behind it? Bella Anderson was a close friend of Joe and his son, Joshua. Her guidance is appreciated while she aids Joshua through this trial. The local sheriff, Chad Oliver, is Bella's sweetheart. He puts a human trafficking case on hold to investigate Joe's death and help Joshua through this difficult time. His officers step up and make headway while he is away. Will they find the person behind the drugs and human trafficking before too many young people get caught in its snare?

What I loved about Settled on a Mountain is the detail that Jacque Jacobs puts into the care they take of Joshua as he mourns his father, makes funeral arrangements, and handles how his father died. Often we struggle with how to show people we care about when they lose a loved one. This book pictures the perfect response we all need when helping a friend in similar situations. The characters' investment in the community and each other is refreshing. Bella's habit of reflecting on her day each evening is a habit of gratitude many readers may want to implement in their lives. This is the third book in her Love is a Cabin Series, and it picks up right where Life on a Mountain left off but can be read alone. I highly recommend this well-written novel for its wholesome romance and cozy mystery.
