The lead investigator identifies the deceased when Megan questions the victim’s identity. It just feels more humane that the reason for such an early morning call has a name. Given a name doesn’t alter the message repeating itself in Megan’s head, though. “They’d all be better off dead” were the words vividly etched in her brain. The words she could never forget. The words spoken by Kurt, her ex-husband, whose first wife before Missy, April and Megan, now dangled from a hangman’s noose in her elegant sitting room. If one dead wife is bad enough, when Missy, Kurt’s second wife, is found dead in her car as a victim of carbon monoxide poisoning, bad news turns to an active crime scene. The math was not rocket science to Megan as well as all those active on the investigation. Two were gone, two were left.
