Author Biography

Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, married with 3 boys. I worked all my life and raised the boys. On my way to work one day I got into a car accident and went on disability. Bored as I was I decided this was a good time to start to write (which was a desire of mine). After my 2nd book our son passed away of a Fentanyl overdose. My life was over. I was encouraged to write Aaron's story as a sort of therapy for myself. Months later I decided to write it for Aaron. If I can help one family from our fate, then I will have made my son proud and I will have helped Aaron continue his fight on helping others. R.I.P. my son

Shattered Dreams and Broken Hearts: Fentanyl The Killer by Sylvia Abolis Mennear is the heartbreaking story of a young man named Aaron James and his endless struggle with addiction and his many attempts at detoxing until his eventual tragic and traumatic death. Mennear provides statistics that show the devastating truth of addiction to many types of opiates and Fentanyl, as well as the lack of assistance available to those who are seeking help. She also accurately and efficiently outlines the signs of drug use as well as insight into how hard it is to deal with the aftermath of losing someone you love dearly to such a powerful drug that influences and changes the user in so many drastic ways. Mennear’s story is devastating and tragic. Shattered Dreams and Broken Hearts is a courageous attempt to help others facing these horrifying situations.

I have learned a lot from Shattered Dreams and Broken Hearts: Fentanyl The Killer. Sylvia Abolis Mennear has shared a horrible experience in hopes of enlightening others on the harsh realities of drugs and the global crisis that addiction has become. I recommend Mennear’s story to anyone, whether they are facing addiction or not because knowledge really is power and the story of Aaron James and his crisis has the power to change the life of anyone who reads it. I love how Mennear shared statistics and solid facts about the opiate crisis that is plaguing several countries so that others may learn just how bad drug addiction has gotten. I truly hope that Mennear and her family can find at least some peace in knowing that her courage and honesty will touch hearts and lives and educate others about drug addiction and the aftermath. I also hope that Mennear continues writing as she gains more insight into this horrific global crisis.

When a loved one is taken so unexpectedly and suddenly, the pain is unbearable and the loss impossible to understand. Our hearts went out to the Mennear family. It is a wise heart that knows that sometimes and in some situations one has to look back and remember so they can look forward to help others. The book Shattered Dreams and Broken Hearts does that. Though painful to read - Sylvia shares the personal side of this crisis while giving statistics and hard facts as to what is happening in our world. It is frightening and it touches so many lives. So thank you, Sylvia for your honesty, love and bravery.
