Shey Darcy seems to have it all. She is a top notch New York model with a handsome husband and three intelligent sons. Her world is nearly perfect until her husband of seventeen years tells her he is gay.

Shey feels betrayed and decides to go back to her country roots in Texas where she will have the support and encouragement of friends and family. The major obstacle to adjustment in small town Texas appears to be her ongoing attraction to her childhood sweetheart, Dane Kelly.

In Texas, Shey's life begins to unravel as her oldest son insists on returning to New York and the middle son admits he has suicidal feelings. Intermingled in the turmoil is the insistence of Shey's husband that the children live with him and his partner in New York where opportunities for educational achievement appear more abundant.

As if Shey did not already have enough problems during her transition to single person status, she is continually hounded by her Southern Baptist mother who believes any and all problems can be solved via regular church attendance. The book is rich with ongoing parenting problems juxtaposed to the real and urgent needs for the nearly forty Shea Darcy to develop a life of her own.

Those liking strong women and happy endings will be drawn to the book.

she's gone country by jane porter, wow packed book about a lot of things going
on. a mom recently divorced from her husband who is now a gay man. kids go to new
york at thanksgiving to be with him. one stays behind. 2 come back and one is
enthralled with bull riding=he starts lessons. another is being bullied at school
and she finds out. a housebreak on thanksgiving and she's calling a lifelong friend
who comes to her rescue. she is a model to boot and takes off to exotic places a few
times during the timeframe, always has her mom nearby to watch the kids. she does it all
and then some. nobody can kick her down. a lot of things from the past come back to be
dealt with so she and others can move on. really liked the book but not a lot of dialogue,
i felt. i rate this a 5 of 5 and will now look for more books by this author.
