Softly Launching by Hugh Edward Johnson is a collection of ten short stories: In Love With Subtitles, you've got your jealous wife; NeanderDoll has technology we dream about and a culture from our nightmares; Honeymoon In Hell has your couple accidentally committing murder and then making it their thing; Cleanup Duty is a video game come to life; Cashmere Sweaters Don't Kill People reveals that they indeed can and that sometimes our actions really do affect others without ever knowing it; Nothing Says I Love You brings in aliens and a heroine that isn't quite typical; Where Worlds Walk Past is a little ghostly and spine tingling; The Pleasures is a college spring break adventure gone wrong; For Your Eyes Lonely is the lonely guy who goes looking for happiness in the wrong spot; Softly Launching is vastly different from the other nine tales in a pleasant way.

Softly Launching by Hugh Edward Johnson shows that an author doesn't have to stick to one genre. The ten stories range from a simple tale about a young boy's visit from his cousin to a couple going on a killing spree to science fiction to horror to mystery and then back to science fiction. Each story is different in plot and story line, but they are all well rounded, complete, and have imagery that puts you right there with the characters. There are two stories where the characters seem "dumb" and the language really simplified, but it helps to set the story and really gets into the characters and makes the story that much more realistic. I will definitely be on the watch for more by Hugh Edward Johnson. Overall, great work!
