Sparks! Ignite Your Way to Success (Lessons From the Experts Book 1) is a self-help book by Sofia Santiago, Ph.D., Margarita Sarmiento, Chrystina Katz, and Charlotte Canion. The book comprises four essays from four successful women who are no strangers to challenges and working hard to improve their lot. Is Sparks! a book that will bring value to its readers? I am confident it will. Other than that, it is a pleasurable book to read; pleasure is valuable too. In it are strategies on how to break damaging habits, finding the courage to try new things, being your best self, and changing your thinking to improve your life.

Sofia Santiago's work is the opening essay, and it is a pleasant surprise in its style, execution, and wisdom. It is an evidence-based approach to using your thinking to unlock more opportunities by eliminating limiting beliefs, catastrophizing, and dichotomous thinking. One would think CBT is required for that kind of thing, but she manages to distill all of that into simple tips that are easy to follow, remember, and apply. These steps are mnemonic, invoking the mental steps one has to take to break the shackles of their own making.

The rest of the essays more or less follow that path. Introduce a problem, assess its impact, offer simple, easy to follow strategies on how to tackle those problems. Sparks! is a quick read that delivers on what it promises. It's well-balanced, educated, and eye-opening. Experience has given them wisdom. It is hard to impart wisdom and knowledge if it comes from experience, but these women have managed to communicate their ideas effectively—applause for their creativity.

The good part about Sparks! Ignite Your Way to Success is that the book is not written by one author. It is written by four. Sofia Santiago, Charlotte Canion, Margarita Sarmiento, and Chrystina Katz wrote Sparks! and they are all experts in their own fields. Indeed, Sparks! is Book 1 of the Lessons From the Experts series. So, the entire series is geared up for success. In Sparks!, the four authors have shared their expertise in four short chapters. These are concise guides for achieving success.

Who doesn’t like success? But the key question is how to get there? Especially if there are obstacles, then how to overcome them? Sparks! by Sofia Santiago, Charlotte Canion, Margarita Sarmiento, and Chrystina Katz provides the answers. I really like Chapter 1, Color Thinking: Speaking the Language of Abundance by Sofia Santiago. It suggests that we don’t have to see a problem in black and white. Instead, we can see it in colors which may bring up a range of options between the two extremes. This is the kind of expert advice that flows throughout the book. Chapter 2, If You Have To Do It Anyway, Just Do It: Move Into a Mindset of Accomplishment by Margarita Sarmiento suggests ways to overcome procrastination. The book is really well written and well organized with important points separated into sections, and the relevant references are listed in the footnotes. For those who are looking for success, Sparks! is a must-read.
