Author Biography

Jill Hughes was born in Cottingley, a quaint little village in West Yorkshire, UK. As a child she loved catching minnows in the beck [a small stream] or swimming beneath the waterfall which is famous for fairies, after two local girls [Elsie Wright and Frances Griffiths] photographed them in 1917 [Or did they?]. Subsequently the photo's proved to be fake, and this inspired a movie called 'Fairy Tale: A True Story' which starred Peter O'Toole playing Sir Arthur Conan Doyle [the creator/author of Sherlock Holmes.] He was taken in by the hoax, but then again to this day Jill Hughes believes in elves/fairies/mermaids/unicorns and all things Elemental and Other Worldly.

Spirit of Prophecy is a highly engaging novel filled with crime and paranormal themes, penned by author Jill Hughes and read in audiobook format by narrator Matt Addis. The action centers around the troubled yet brilliant Rosetta Barrett, a psychic detective sworn to secrecy about her work. With her personal life in tatters due to the secrets that she keeps, Barrett throws herself into her next case as she investigates the murder of a horse-rider in a random and terribly violent road rage attack. But as she unpicks the clues of the crime, a deeper prophecy emerges dating back to an atrocity which happened on Apache lands some time ago, and the race to solve more than one mystery begins.

Author Jill Hughes has crafted a compelling and interesting paranormal drama with convincing psychic themes as part of the investigative method. Connections to the Apache people and the stunning New Mexico territories provide a rich backdrop from which she draws excellent atmospheric moments, and the characters created are well-drawn and realistic among their environs.

In terms of audiobook quality, the narration by Matt Addis adds a unique gravitas to the mystery and paranormal elements of the story, with a rich diversity of character voices that are truly distinct and give deeper immediate connections to new figures in the mystery as they appear. The editing is crystal clear with no interruptions, allowing readers to be totally drawn into the world of the story. Overall, Spirit of Prophecy is a superbly entertaining audiobook and mystery experience, one not to be missed.
