Standing by China Dennington is an exciting, futuristic fantasy novel about a girl named Gale, who one day plunges into the ocean to save her sister. The mermaids of Dellinia rescue her and tell her she is one of the few people who can travel to the future. Gale and a boy named Force travel to the future where the world is in ruins, with people living in tents to survive. Two people who care only for themselves rule the world. Gale and Force have to save not just the human world, but the mermaid world too. Gale meets lots of interesting people, including her descendants. Will Gale and Force be able to save the world in time?

I loved Standing by China Dennington. It is a great book and a real page-turner. I thought that Junior the unibear was adorable. The characters were likeable and had very different and unique personalities. It had lots of scary and exciting moments. I would recommend this book to anyone. It takes you on an adventure that will thrill and shock you. It is descriptive and well written. There were very moving sections in the book and I almost cried sometimes. The descriptions of the villains were very accurate; they were mean, frightening, and selfish. I really love the front cover and thought the photo was very creative. I loved how the mermaid was placed on the braid. People can relate to the characters' distinctive personalities. I very highly recommend this book for young adults.
