Stanley the mouse lived a happy life beside the sea, with crackers and cheese. He liked to roam around the harbor and in the surf and admire his home. One morning a seagull brings him a note saying his favorite cousin Jim was going to visit him. Jim arrived with a cutlass, a pistol, and a brand new dagger. He flashed his grin of golden teeth and shared his stories, tales of battles, and treasure hunts. Stanley also shared his marvelous life and they surfed, munched crackers, and roamed along the coast. Jim thought Stanley's life was boring and it was okay for a holiday. He decided to take Stanley aboard his ship, The Barnacle, in search of a treasure. Will Stanley enjoy the adventure on the ship or will he prefer his quiet and simple life back home?

Stanley and Jim On A Proper Adventure by Karen Dennett will take young readers on a fantastical adventure on The Barnacle. Shona Wong brings the story alive for readers with her wonderful illustrations. The story has a good pace and movement, and a lot of action. Stanley enjoys the quest and likes the maps but he realizes he is happy in his own quiet home which is a treasure by the sea. This story is about self-discovery, self-realization, and friendship. Written in rhyming verses, the story enthralls young readers with the quest for treasure, pirates, and surviving their siege. For all readers who love adventure on the high seas and action, this book is definitely a must-read.
