Snowy and Minty take young readers on an exciting, adventurous trip in Starry Night Surprise: Minty and Snowy Adventure Book 1 by Justin Mitson. Snowy and Minty are best friends. Snowy liked to gaze at the sky though a telescope and working in the observatory always reminded her of her grandfather, who had taught her everything he knew about science. She missed her grandfather whom she considered to be a wise old astronomer. Minty and Snowy had no families and they only had each other. Both the girls used their skills and talents to encourage the women and children of their town to keep dreaming of the day when they would find their loved ones who were taken away by the ogres. Now their town is facing another ogre invasion and Minty and Snowy show the townspeople how anything can be faced by having faith in God. How do they do it?
The story is fun, adventurous, entertaining, and has some good messages for young readers about talent, friendship, faith in God, how to handle enemies, and to never give up. The friendship and camaraderie between Minty and Snowy is palpable throughout the story. The author’s descriptive narration, coupled with the beautiful illustrations, gives the story a good pace and movement and brings it alive for readers. All the characters in the story complement the main characters of Minty and Snowy and make it an amazing story for children. With pirates, ogres, and other interesting characters, readers will be eagerly waiting for the sequel.
