Startup Fever by Austin Muhs explains the purpose, the major players, and the evolution of crowd sourcing in creating one's own entrepreneurial path. This style of funding has come to represent the rebirth of the old American dream, and an America which many will be proud to call home. The whole gamut of this form of financing is discussed under various functional areas like selecting the type of funding, choosing the right time opt for such financial support, accounting for the actual needs of the startup to be met from this, room for innovation, using the existing sources, and other peripheral areas that may have some relevance. Also, as the author puts it, changes are likely in many other areas as a result of crowdfunding like redefining success, and a spurt in freelancing or hiring workforce.

The seeds of crowdfunding can be seen in Future Shock written by Alvin Toffler. Startup Fever by Austin Muhs provides a lucid description of its manifestation in the modern industry where all of the needed resources are there for the asking. It is the entrepreneur who has to choose from a large collection of sites devoted to this type of funding. The author has given a good list of such funding sites, which are based on the latest concepts echoed by almost all of the relevant industry trade magazines. Also, for each such site, the distinctive features are mentioned, something that is of great practical help in choosing one's funding area. This is a very good book; it gives excellent insight into a fast growing arm of business.
