STEAM AHEAD! DIY For Kids is an educational children’s book, written by Sumita Mukherjee and illustrated by Dzynpro. Filled with easy and fun projects for children, this book gives simple instructions on how to construct your own amazing gadgetry by utilizing S.T.E.A.M. – science, technology, engineering, art and maths. Each project shows the difficulty-rating of the task, as well as the estimated time it will take to complete the project. With a complete index at the back of the book, listing all of the materials required to complete each and every fun project within its pages, children and adults alike will be amazed at how much they can accomplish with such little effort.

While reading STEAM AHEAD! DIY For Kids, curiosity got the better of me and I could not resist testing some of these exciting projects out for myself. Not only did I want to see if they actually worked, but I also had many of the items required for the tasks right here in my home. By following Sumita Mukherjee’s easy, yet detailed instructions, I was quickly able to navigate my way around circuitry items I had never dared toy with before, successfully creating a fully functional birthday card with an LED light, a shoe box projector and handmade soap, fully personalized and with a design from my own imagination. Whether you want to make these items as a gift for friends to brighten up their special day, or you simply want to get creative indoors when the weather is not so great outside, there is something for everybody in STEAM AHEAD! DIY For Kids, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Note that a few of the projects contained within do require parental supervision. I recommend this crafty title to readers aged 6-90, as self-creating works of art brings out the child in all of us.
