Author Biography

After spending her formative years on a farm in eastern Oregon, hopeless romantic Shanna Hatfield turns her rural experiences into sweet historical and contemporary romances filled with sarcasm, humor, and hunky heroes.
It was in one of those sweet historical romances where Steve the Mule first came to life. Readers asked for more about Steve. A children's book was a perfect way to share more about the crazy mule.
When this USA Today bestselling author isn’t writing or covertly hiding decadent chocolate from the other occupants of her home, Shanna hangs out with her beloved husband, Captain Cavedweller.

Steve the Mule by Shanna Hatfield is a book in A Pendleton Petticoats Children's Book series. Steve is a mule who has a very important job. And that is to keep Willa out of trouble. She’s a curious little girl who likes to pull the horses' tails and manes, wallow in the mud with the pigs, and grab the chickens' tail feathers, making them squawk. Steve has his work cut out for him, but he doesn’t seem to mind. He loves Willa. When she naps, he does too. But when Steve hears Willa scream and cry for help, Steve runs to her rescue. A coyote has Willa trapped in the barn. But never fear, Steve kicks the varmint out and saves the day. It’s a good thing he’s on duty guarding Willa and the farm.

First, I would like to say that I absolutely love the illustrations by Rob Foote in Steve the Mule. They are delightful and eye-catching. The story line is super cute. I absolutely loved Steve and his big heart for caring for the adventurous little girl in his charge. And Willa – what a cutie! As a childcare provider, I can’t wait to read this story to my kids. They are going to love it. Praise to Shanna Hatfield for an adorable and exceptionally engaging storybook. I can’t wait to add this book to my picture book collection. Steve the Mule would also be great as an early reader book for starting readers. I’m excited to read more books in A Pendleton Petticoats Children's Book series.
