Stone Tavern by Aggie Butler is an epic fantasy that features gods and humans in a deadly game to qualify for the ultimate level of play, the Galaxy Extravaganza. The Ageon Games are on and every god is poised to win, by feat or trick, and each comes in with plans that are deadly, not only for the contestants in the Olympic Games, but equally for mankind. Max Wayne is a human contestant and he has a huge challenge to meet to be eligible for the next game level, but can he match wits with the gods and beat them on a turf that is familiar to them. This is a fun, breathtaking ride in a setting that is as fascinating as it is mysterious, the place where the gods love to wager and indulge.

This is a humorous, rollicking ride that will have the reader entertained from the beginning to the end. The action never slows down. From the opening scenes at the rowdy courtroom, the reader is tossed into a whirlwind of action, with compelling and well-sculpted characters, a huge conflict and a drama that is outright hilarious. Aggie Butler writes deftly and demonstrates a fine sense of humor, and there is no doubt that Stone Tavern is a work of great imagination, laced with various twists and surprises. The story is well-plotted and the reader keenly follows the characters as they appear. The setting is vividly captured in powerful prose, the plot is fast-paced, and the conflict is well-developed to keep the balance. This was a satisfying read and I would not hesitate to recommend it to fans of epic fantasy.
