Stormfire: Four Kingdoms: Origins 1 by Jasmine Young is an epic fantasy set in Jaypes, the kingdom of air. For many years the kingdom of air has been in turmoil. The true royal family is dead and a tyrannical fire sage sits on the throne. Hundreds of years ago the gods created four types of sages, each having dominion over the elements of water, air, fire, and earth. The sages kept the balance. For a country youth living at Mount Alairus, the appearance of the usurper's army means only one thing. A burning. Jaime Pappas’ family has been targeted for execution. He always wanted to know about his father but the truth may be more than he can take. Thus begins an adventure across Jaypes to unlock the magic of air.

This is a story following the popular hero’s journey. Jaime is an underdog. He has powerful magic but a weakness that strikes him at the most inopportune moment. He was a relatable character who showed his youth without being whiney about his fate. I enjoyed his metamorphosis from a scared boy to a passionate young man willing to give his life for the sake of the world. The people he came across and befriended were interesting and added to the depth of the story. Stormfire has interesting mythology that I’m sure will make the next books in this series very intriguing. I can’t wait to read more of the water, earth, and fire kingdoms. Jasmine Young’s Stormfire: Four Kingdoms: Origin is exciting and promises to be one of my favorites.
