Sun God Sacred Secrets: The Archaeology, Art & Science of Altered States of Consciousness by Carlton Brown is an in-depth look at the significance of four ancient Sun God religions on four different continents and their ritualistic ties to the fourth state of consciousness. It is clear that Brown spent many years exploring and researching the religion and science behind cosmological timekeeping and transcendental states of consciousness. Throughout eleven chapters, Brown weaves a factual tale of advanced cultures who understood the importance of sacred time (sunrise, sunset, equinoxes and solstices). Many of the races used enthogenic drugs in order to contact a Higher Power. Though the book is very heavy on physics and astronomy, a novice reader could easily understand the concepts, which are explained with many illustrations. Each chapter end has a summary of important concepts, so it is easy to follow along.

I remember studying the Egyptians in school and how advanced their pyramid architecture was, as well as the Mayans' sacrificial altars. Both peoples are covered extensively in this work. Brown carefully details the links between math, physics, art and architecture, rituals, beliefs, mediation, and enlightenment. Brown believes that mankind is on a quest for spiritual perfection and that technology further defines that cause. Sun God Sacred Secrets: The Archaeology, Art & Science of Altered States of Consciousness by Carlton Brown has all of the right stuff to form a hypothesis, backed up by scientific research, that mankind has a knowledge of others no matter how far apart we are separated and that life’s journey is a continuous learning process of communing with our essence to achieve a collective consciousness.
