Birds of a feather… or perhaps cougars of a feather come together in Terms of Temptation, a continuation of the lives of the Cantrell family by Lorrie Farrelly. Kinley Cantrell has a heart for taking on wild animals which are injured or sick, but she also has a quick and fiery temper when it comes to people who abuse any animals. It was the sight of her giving an old drunk a strong going over concerning the condition of his malnourished horse that first caught Deputy Game Warden Bram Killoran’s attention. Though they frustrate the living hell out of each other, the two end up going in search of a cougar alleged to be killing Old Man Hackett’s sheep. The adventure brings a whole new set of annoyances to the two as they realize that there is a burning passion between them. Bram can hardly keep his hands off of her while he fights back the idea that he is good enough to marry her and settle down. As the two struggle within, there is plenty of intense action taking place on the outside as well.

Lorrie Farrelly has captured the struggles of love and romance in a fantastic way in Terms of Temptation. She has not only penetrated the hearts and emotions of the two lead characters, but she has done it in a setting and under circumstances that add to the romance. Horses, strong men, conflicts, and adventures, which were a daily part of western life at the turn of the century, have a visceral cloud around them that makes the reader long for that simpler time; a cloud which surrounds Lorrie’s novel. Passionate, emotional and adventurous, Terms of Temptation is an adventure in romance that will hold the reader spellbound, like the scream of a cougar in the night.

Kinley Cantrell grew up on a ranch and her only love was caring for wild animals. Bram Killoran was a deputy game warden so he also cared very deeply for wild animals. Their mutual love for animals is what brought them together and that is probably all they had in common. Kinley was stubborn, arrogant, brave and outspoken, and would forge her way into or out of anything. Bram lived his life solo and he loved his single status. One steamy and passionate night in the woods introduced them to a life of possibilities they both never thought existed, but also brought up new challenges they were not sure how to deal with. Bram was not the marrying type and had no intentions of settling down, but he was a good man and wanted to do the right thing. Kinley, on the other hand, was not about to settle with a man who was just marrying her out of obligation. They were both at a crossroads.

Terms of Temptation by Lorrie Farrelly is a historical romance story about two people brought together by their shared passion for wild life. Two people who thought they had nothing in common and each loved their life just the way it was. Lorrie Farrelly created a beautiful story about life on a ranch, love of family, love for the wild, and a challenging love between two people. The descriptive and skillful way the book is written takes you back a hundred years and draws you into life on a ranch and the versatile range of characters, human and otherwise, that occupy the land. Terms of Temptation is the type of book you read and want to keep reading because of the way the plot is so skilfully put together and because you can easily relate to and connect with the characters.

Terms of Temptation is a romance set in post-Civil War Wyoming. Kinley Cantrell had always loved animals, even when she was a child. She takes in all sorts of animals who are either abandoned or injured, and she doesn't discriminate whether the animals are domestic or a little more on the dangerous side. Her once-childhood penchant for adopting animals followed her as she grew up, and she had set up her own sort of veterinary sanctuary for animals. The Deputy Game Warden visits her one day, informing her of a complaint by an ornery old man, saying his sheep were being killed by an animal she had set loose. Angered by the accusation and annoyed by the attraction she felt for Bram Killoran, the Deputy Game Warden, what follows is an adventure of tracking down whatever livestock killer was out there. What they didn't expect was to find love instead.

Lorrie Farrelly writes romance and misunderstanding between two people who love each other quite well. The characterization of Kinley and Bram and other characters that lived in the setting felt quite realistic and it was quite fun to read the developing relationship between the two. I particularly enjoyed Kinley's personality. She's an independent heroine, but quite feminine still when it came to trying to understand her feelings. It's that kind of characterization that made Terms of Temptation quite a delight to read. The plot might be a bit cliched, but the way Farrelly writes her characters makes it quite an amazing page-turner!
