Wandala lived in the town of Centrailia located in the center of the world. After surviving a massive earthquake that shook the ground violently, most of the planet broke and fell into the sea. Those who survived created five separate countries and each group pretended they were the only people in this new world. Wandala always dreamed of faraway places where a brand-new bridge would emerge out of the fogs and would lead to new lands. One day she told her parents of her dream and they wondered why she would want to go anywhere else because she lived in the center of the world. Wandala knew if she told any other adult they would get angry and any other child would make fun of her. She could think of only one person who would listen to her; Super Eddie who was a peculiar old janitor at school. He was Wandala's friend and he understood her more than the other kids in school and her teachers.

The Adventures of Wandala by Daniel Boyd is a fantastical adventure story that will take young readers on a fascinating journey along with Wandala and her dog Rodney as she tries to unite the world and make it one. Hector Mexia's black and white illustrations are wonderful and they breathe life into the story and the characters. It is a book for children who love adventure and fantasy. The characters are all interesting and well portrayed, especially Wandala, Super Eddie, and not to leave out the dog, Rodney, who plays an important role in the story. There is a certain amount of intrigue, suspense, fantasy, and adventure in the plot that make it an engaging and entertaining book for all adventure lovers.
