"The Blood of Heroes: The Thirteen Day Struggle for the Alamo" by James Donovan is a good book. I doubt whether there are many Americans, especially Texans, who do not know the story of Davy Crockett and the Alamo; it was one of the most famous battles in history but which lasted only thirteen days. The battle plan was not well laid out. To avoid controversy Mr. Donovan would not say exactly where Davy Crockett was killed or whether he was taken prisoner by Santa Anna. Although they lost the battle and their lives at the Alamo, Texas finally won their independence and took the country back from Mexico in another battle.

I have always enjoyed reading history and have read many books about the Alamo and Davy Crockett. Each and everyone may have a slightly different view, but that is to be expected. Stories change over the years as they are passed down from generation to generation. I feel that Donovan has given readers an accurate account of the battle. He has thoroughly researched the topic and presented the information in an interesting manner. My review is based on the audio format. I wish I could have seen the illustrations. I presume they have added a lot to the text. The voice of the narrator is very appropriate. I felt as if I was there in the middle of the battle. I highly recommend this book.
