In The Bow of Anarchy by Jessica Renwick, the third book of the Starfall series, it is nearly a year later since Fable put her evil great-grandmother in her place. Trying to find a way to unlock the magic within the blood star that she stole from Fable, the old witch finally finds a spell that can bend the star's magic to her will. Meanwhile, Fable is trying to learn how to control her magic, which seems to be getting out of hand and accidentally harming the things she loves. There is a constant worry that she has inherited bad traits from Endora. Fable’s Aunt Moira receives a letter from their friends, Alice and Nester, about a blood curse that may have a connection to the blood star that Endora has in her possession. They head to Mistford to find out more, and also to enjoy the sights of the fair that is currently visiting. While our main character desperately tries to control the dark side of her, Endora is already gathering the ingredients for the spell needed to make the blood star hers. Will Fable and her friends catch her great-grandmother and take back the blood star, or will Fable give in to the darkness within that she’s trying to fend off?

Bow Of Anarchy is a wonderfully written novel. To get a better understanding of what Fable has endured so far, I read in-depth summaries of the first two books. Nevertheless, I found Jessica Renwick’s third book a delight to read, full of amazing and likable heroes found in the form of young teenagers and a villain that’s a relative of the main character, Fable. It has that Brothers Grimm fairy tale vibe with a modern twist that fantasy readers will love and find themselves getting lost in. Bow Of Anarchy has really caught my attention and, after reading it, I found myself heading to the website to get the first two books. Based upon the summaries of the first two books and what I have read in the third novel, it’s definitely a series I would recommend.
