The Bridge Home by Matthew Williams is the story of a young prince, Akiiki, who is raised in a life of luxury in a kingdom that requires the villages under its rule to supply the capital city with food so the residents within would not starve. Akiiki’s father is murdered and the prince is abducted. Never having been out of the capital city, Akiiki is very frightened as his life quickly becomes a fight for survival in the bush. As he learns to live in the harshness of the desert, a newfound friend, Obasi, helps Akiiki discover the difference between living a life of revenge or one of forgiveness, but can Obasi and his ideals of forgiveness help Akiiki find his way back home?
The Bridge Home by Matthew Williams has an amazing plot that is a roller coaster of a story, filled with emotions varying from anger, lost, resentment, acceptance, love and forgiveness. The characters are interesting as the author provides their history and background as they intertwine in the trials and hardships that grip the villages of the kingdom. I absolutely loved The Bridge Home. Matthew Williams added the perfect amount of detail to make the reader feel what the characters felt without drawing it out too far. I recommend The Bridge Home to anyone who enjoys a story that teaches a lesson in life, love and forgiveness. I personally hope to see more stories like The Bridge Home from Matthew Williams, hopefully more with Akiiki, Obasi and the other characters. This story has great potential as a series that would depict the perspective of each one of them.
