The Cardinal Gate: An Eleanor Morgan Novel Book 1 by Amy Cissell is the story of Eleanor Morgan, who has an impossible choice to make. She is no shrinking teenager who has no idea what she should or should not do. She was raised as a human, far away from the world where she was born. Her true identity was always hidden, until just months before her 35th birthday, when her best friend Finn reveals where she is truly from. Shocked but surprisingly prepared, she finally learns her true destiny.

It is her job to open the gates so that there is once again a safe way to enter the world of Fae and the human world. Together, Finn and Eleanor begin their journey to make it happen, but their path is paved with dangers and unexpected creatures that stop them from making it happen. Joining them on the journey is the mysterious Isaac. He is a werewolf with his own set of challenges. The three of them journey together, but it is not easy, especially when Finn is jealous of the spark between Isaac and Eleanor. Can they put their personal differences aside to concentrate on the task? Or will they perish?

What can I say about this novel? I liked Eleanor and I loved how strong and resilient she was. She was no shrinking wallflower. She knew what she had to do, what she wanted to do, and she took measures to make it happen. Even though she had two very capable men to support her, she took charge of the situation. I liked Isaac and I loved to hate Finn (I don’t know why). The story is charming and very well developed. The characters are well drawn and well rounded. I loved the cover of the novel as well. This is a whole story with a strong female protagonist and superior writing! Brilliant and entertaining.
