The Caves of Fire by K. Berklund-Pagé is a spell-binding adventure about courage and family. Fee has a very important mission. His master, Javerra, has sent him to deliver a message to a boy named Daniel, which takes him into a strange world. Daniel is celebrating his birthday with his family and attempting to gain some independence when a creature enters his life with a message that changes everything. With the help of his bossy new friend, he sets out to confront his past and to face Javerra but to do so he and his new friends will have to learn how to trust each other.

K. Berklund-Pagé delivers a stunning story that has fun twists along the way awaiting the three main characters with each of them adding a sweet touch of innocence to the story as each has their own bravery and strength about them. Fee is adorable and adds an innocent presence to the plot with how he sees the world, and a light quirky quality with the unique character that he is. Daniel is the protagonist and his story focuses on his coming of age journey. He’s at a tough age where he’s still a kid but he’s trying to gain some independence and seeking out a friend. Then everything changes when he meets Evie, who isn’t exactly the friend he had in mind, and Fee, who delivers him a letter that throws him into the position of becoming a hero. But as he gets to know each of them, he sees who they truly are and their best qualities that help him down the path to confront Javerra and face his past.

The three characters form a delightful team as they explore another world where magic is alive and the beings there are strange and beautiful. The other characters are unique and charming, such as a giant bird named Chol who is their greatest ally and source of wisdom. The descriptions are stunning and vibrant, bringing this world to life and making The Caves of Fire a fun and delightful adventure about family, friendship, and a coming of age journey that youngsters won’t want to put down.
