It is the spring semester at college for Michael. Days are warmer after a bitter winter and the entire campus seems to feel the effects of the sunshine. Finals are approaching. Studying needs to be done for him to graduate and earn his bachelor’s degree. Then Michael starts having the most vivid dreams of gruesome and unearthly scenes. Assuming it is from stress, he doesn’t take too much notice of them. All the while there is a cloaked figure, shrouded in darkness, that says they need Michael’s help to escape their unjust prison. Sharing this with his friend since freshman year, Michael tries to make sense of it all. Saturated in myth, legend, and fiction, Jesse Rosenbaum brings us a horror novel to surpass all others in The Condemned.

When you dream of the monsters written in a book you have just finished reading, you know the author did exactly what they set out to do. The characters jumped off the pages and embedded themselves into my subconscious. When facts mix with fiction and the fear grips you so tightly, you have found a rare storyteller. The Condemned is pure horror! Just as the main character is pulled into his nightmares, the reader is pulled into this book to accompany him on a journey to a world he could never have imagined. It is evident that Jesse Rosenbaum has a wild imagination when old horror favorites are given more depth and dimension. The novel has been well thought out and well-executed to bring layer upon layer of true horror.
