The Day My Fart Followed Me to the Dentist is a hilarious children’s book, written by Ben Jackson and Sam Lawrence and illustrated by Danko Herrera. When young Timmy wakes, he feels a pain in his mouth and knows that it is time to visit the dentist. His imaginary friend, Little Fart, accompanies him and is excited that Timmy is given the tooth to take home for the Tooth Fairy. Although Little Fart tries to stay awake so that he can meet the Tooth Fairy, he also falls asleep. Both Timmy and Little Fart awaken to a wonderful reward the following morning.
This is the first in the Little Fart books which I have read, and it took a few moments for me to catch my breath after reading it (no pun intended). Ben Jackson and Sam Lawrence have done an extraordinary job in creating a book for children which is funny, while conveying an important message about keeping your teeth healthy. Inclusive of guest appearances such as the Tooth Fairy, enchanting new worlds are built in the young reader’s imagination; the reason the teeth are collected brought a smile to my face. Strangely enough, a pungent smell accompanies him everywhere Little Fart seems to be (I am sure Little Fart visits my husband often). I found The Day My Fart Followed Me to the Dentist to be funny, charming and delightful to read. I wholeheartedly recommend it to young readers aged 5-9, so that they can build on their own extraordinary imaginations each day.
