The Devereaux Jewel of Highland Rim by Joy Ross Davis is the story of a woman who is married to a wonderful man, but there is something sinister happening in her life that she cannot explain. Anna Devereaux is very happy, she has married a wonderful man, she will never want for anything as her husband is a very wealthy man. She was expecting her married life to be painless, stress-free and simply happy. But it seems as if her life is to be filled with the unexpected and the unwanted.
Just when Anna was settling into her new life, something sinister and downright terrifying starts happening around her in the house. Suddenly, Anna's new life is changed when she is surrounded by angels and ghosts and she even has her suspicions about a murderer living in her home. But who will believe Anna when she is finding it hard to believe it herself? Are there really ghosts and angels? Can she believe her senses when she is living in such a big house? Should Anna believe what is happening around her? Or is this just her eyes and her mind playing games with her?
The Devereaux Jewel of Highland Rim is definitely one of the best paranormal novels I have read so far this year. This novel is intense, fast paced and full of mystery. I loved the suspense and I really liked Anna and her role in it. She is the perfect protagonist for such a story; she is living her life and fighting for it to the best of her abilities. Even when things get hard, she did not get too scared, but kept her head and fought back as she should. This was truly entertaining and I was simply enamored by the story.
