In a fantasy world of fighting and warriors, Líf stands apart from those around her. For as long as she can remember, she has been able to see creatures that accompany each person’s spirit, and this ability makes her unique, but not in a good way. Líf has few friends, is unmarried, and finds solace only in her family. When someone new comes along who is also seen as an outsider, bringing with him a terrible warning, Líf and her family must sail into the unknown to get the answers they seek. The Guardian's Speaker: Volume One by Katharine E Wibell dives into a new world with elegant writing and an intriguing storyline.

Although it took me a little bit to get used to the setting and world-building of The Guardian's Speaker, I ended up enjoying it! Fantasy is a genre I have really grown to love during this year, and this book is unique from the others I tend to pick up within the genre. Katharine E Wibell did a wonderful job crafting a story with solid characters and a strong plot, and once I got hooked on the story, I was surprised to reach the ending so quickly. It ended in a way that made me want to pick up the second volume without having an unsatisfying cliffhanger; I have an itch to read more. I would recommend The Guardian's Speaker to fantasy fanatics who want to dive into a quick short story full of mystery and heartwarming familial relationships.
