The Healer's Secret by Helen Pryke follows the life of a thirtyish woman who is facing her life after miscarriages, a broken marriage, a lost job, and is an alcoholic. She moves in with her mother, who suggests that she take some time to get her life back together in Italy at the family's old cottage. After some hesitation, Jennifer, the main character, decides this is a good idea. However, when she arrives, she finds that the cottage needs some work and the garden is overgrown. In the task of putting the garden back to rights, Jennifer discovers an unmarked grave. When she asks relatives about it, no one wants to discuss it. But that's not the only mysterious thing to happen. Jennifer discovers an old recipe book that belonged to her great-grandmother years ago. It had been passed down through generation after generation to the eldest daughter until a secret prevented that. The recipe book also contains a few confessions. Jennifer's life takes on a whole new meaning.

I absolutely loved The Healer's Secret by Helen Pryke. I was hooked from the prologue. It was very visual and a great way to begin. I loved the fact that mystery after mystery kept being revealed and they were all solved in the end. However, I kept trying to solve them myself. I also enjoyed the fact that the story line spanned many generations and was intertwined very well. The story line is new and very interesting. I can recommend this book to anyone who would enjoy an entertaining read and a great mystery to solve.
