The Keeper's Flame (A Pandoran Novel, #2) by Barbara Kloss is the second book in this young adult fantasy series. Five months have passed since Daria Regius arrived home, but the welcome was anything but heartwarming. The king (her grandfather) has stripped her of her freedom and a darkness moves throughout the kingdom. The townspeople are anxious for the annual games because, according to prophecy, this year's champion will become the true king, and only with a true king can the evil surrounding them be destroyed. But the fear surrounding the city of Gaia is making everyone paranoid and Daria doesn't know who to trust. Pushed into action by this fear, Daria knows she needs to muster the courage to save those she loves, the new unexpected friendships she's encountered, and the devastating betrayal that threatens to ruin it all. She must tackle the evil that threatens the Gaian way of life, but will it find and destroy her first?
The Keeper's Flame by Barbara Kloss is filled with magic, action, and plot twists that young adult fantasy readers will love. The plot is fun and riveting. The characters are full of life, energy, and remain consistent throughout the story. The tension and connection between Daria and Alex is believable and readers will love the added depth this gives the story. Their delayed reunion made me flip the pages fast and readers will want to know how this book finally ends. The story is creative, exciting, and thoughtful; a great adventure that readers will thoroughly enjoy reading again and again.
