The Krakow Klub by Philip C. Elrod is a cross between a spy-action thriller and a science fiction novel. The book’s main character is John Scott, who is half-human and half-Mylean, the only survivor of a doomed planet. A supercomputer aboard a space station harvests John’s DNA to clone more Myleans and in return protects John and allows him to amass great wealth. Now John has his own island in the Florida Keys, complete with a golf course, his own robot-servant, his own personal spacecraft, and a beautiful woman he’s falling in love with. However, he soon receives word of a super-secret conspiracy of a group of powerful, wealthy people who have highly placed agents in the government and the military. They plan to create chaos and then establish a dictatorship in the U.S. Do John, his new girlfriend Julia, and his closest human friend Jim Slater -- even with John’s access to Mylean technology -- have what it takes to go up against The Krakow Klub?

Elrod’s fusion of the two genres in The Krakow Klub works — the characters are believable, and the suspense makes you want to keep reading. The book contains humor, too, as we read the thoughts of John’s robot, who wonders about the peculiarities of “these humans,” and his pet dog. The book also takes you behind the scenes into the world of high-ranking government officials in Washington, D.C. – Jim Slater, for example, is a graduate of the U.S. Naval College and works for the National Security Advisor’s office. As for the Krakow Klub members, they’re so thoroughly evil that you want to hiss at them. At times author Elrod, through his characters, expresses his conservative political philosophy, but even this reviewer, a die-hard left-liberal, didn’t let that get in the way of enjoying a good book. I would recommend The Krakow Klub to anyone who enjoys thrillers with a sci-fi twist.

The Krakow Klub by Philip C. Elrod reminds us that while we go through our lives trusting in government, sometimes that is just not the case. The US government has come under fire and is in peril, even if only a handful of people know about the danger. The Krakow Klub is an evil cabal that has already taken over governments in smaller nations and now it has placed its sights on not only the US but world domination. They have a plan to assassinate the President and have a firm hand in the violence that will ensue. There is, however, one person who might be able to foil their plans and his name is John Scott. A man who has knowledge and special powers that set him apart from the norm. He is, after all, only half earthling; he is also part Mylean, an advanced people that we can't even dream about. John Scott is going to use his knowledge to bring down The Krakow Klub.

This book has a little bit of everything if you love not only a good science fiction but a bit of crime and thriller too. The Krakow Klub is a vile group, the kind that would be all over the news and people calling for them to be taken out right away if they were real. John Scott is an interesting character and one I found to be rather heroic, even if he is only half earthling. He is the man who can save us from the criminals. This book is well written and has a great flow to it. Good and unique science fiction seems to be harder to come by these days, but this book hit all the right notes for me. Philip C. Elrod has written something unique, creative, detailed, and just down right enjoyable. This was a page turner from start to finish for me! I highly recommend it.
