The Little Giants as the Mysterious Six in the Tangled Case of the Ghastly Chicken Yegg, Volume 1 is a Christian mystery novel for children, grades 4-6, written by Lynette Harrell. Robyn and Bailey just couldn't understand what was happening to Robyn's chickens. So far, she had lost five of them and was starting to worry that she'd eventually have none left. She would go out to the chicken pen and, where there once was a chicken, she'd only find a little pile of feathers. Bailey suggested that perhaps they were looking for better grazing elsewhere, but Robyn didn't think so -- not one of them had ever come back. Robyn asked the Lord to help her figure out what was happening, but He seemed to be saying no to her. Bailey wondered, however, if God was really saying no, not yet. In any event, the two ten-year-old friends were feeling pretty good about the fact that it was the first day of summer vacation. They loved the little town of Fopple Top where they lived. It had mountains and a river that they loved to swim and fish in. They and their other friends, Jack, Dexter and Emily, made up the Mysterious Five Club, and they enjoyed sinking their detecting teeth into a good mystery. The missing chickens would keep them busy for at least a little while that summer.
The Little Giants as the Mysterious Six in the Tangled Case of the Ghastly Chicken Yegg, Volume 1 follows the Mysterious Five Club as they investigate Robyn's missing chickens and become acquainted with the new kid in town, Oliver, whose family was from England. This book is a lot of fun to read, even if you're an adult. There's the magic of summer vacation which seems endless when you're a kid, and small town mysteries to be solved. Harrell also sneaks in quite a few new vocabulary words for young readers to learn as the Five get to know their new British friend and are amused to see how the everyday words they use differ. They also learn about the damage that gossip and innuendo can cause as Oliver's family becomes the target of some gossiping adults in town. The Little Giants as the Mysterious Six in the Tangled Case of the Ghastly Chicken Yegg, Volume 1 is a Christian Living selection for children that is great fun while it inspires, and it's highly recommended.
