The Little Lost Fishing Cat by Nadishka Aloysius is a wonderful story full of information about the endangered species known as Fishing Cats. All too often, these wild animals are mistaken for house cats and taken into human homes. When their caretakers discover the cats are not exactly ordinary, they take the cats to deserted roads and leave them there to fend for themselves. The Fishing Cat in this story has no idea how to care for itself in the wild and finds there are several things in the woods that are scary. Hoping his human family will come back for him, he attempts to move forward on his own. What will become of the Fishing Cat? Will the family come back for him or will he be permanently on his own? How will he learn how to take care of himself when no one has taught him how?

I loved The Little Lost Fishing Cat! The plot is filled with information about this endangered species that faces several problems every day. From being picked up by humans, then turned back out into the wild to being run over by vehicles, Nadishka Aloyius easily points out the best reasons to enjoy these particular cats from a distance and the importance of allowing them to remain in the wild where they belong. The beautiful illustrations by Iaz Abdul Cader are very helpful in identifying what a Fishing Cat looks like and how easily they can be mistaken for everyday domestic felines. I recommend this story to readers of any age who love to learn about animals. My personal favorite about this story is the fun fact pages.
