Two years ago, Lucy put away a teenager, Daniel, for murdering his girlfriend. A model prisoner, Daniel is now facing trial and he wants to prove his innocence before it’s too late. Lucy, a good detective, never leaves a stone unturned and she senses something’s not right about Daniel’s conviction, but she can’t convince her partner, James, who insists that there was nothing missed in the evidence and that all of the evidence points to Daniel. Then the threatening phone calls start, which makes Lucy even more determined to prove Daniel’s innocence and convict the real murderer. But can she? There isn’t much to go on.

J.K. Wood’s second book in the Lucy detective series, The Lucy Chronicles Volume 2: Small Talk, lives up to the compelling mystery of the first book which initiates the actual murder and murder conviction. The plot weaves through multiple unexpected twists and turns to build tension, but once again leaves the reader hanging at the end. This is a great mystery. Good plot development, but really no resolution, just a void at the end, leaving the reader with many unanswered questions. Good characterization, believable characters, and nice scene description. An interesting mystery, and a page turner right to the end ... which isn’t the end.
