Author Biography

Debra Kristi was born and raised a Southern California girl. She still resides in the sunny state with her husband, two kids, and three schizophrenic cats. As a writer, she loves to dabble in multiple genres where the characters break the rules of normalcy. Unlike her characters, Debra is not immortal and her only super power is letting the dishes and laundry pile up. When not busy drumming away at the keyboard spinning new tales, Debra is hanging out creating priceless memories with her family, geeking out to science fiction and fantasy television, and tossing around movie quotes.

The Moorigad Dragon: Age of the Hybrid Book 1 is a dark romantic fantasy novella written by Debra Kristi. Kyra is a Moorigad Dragon, a hybrid born to a fire-dragon father and a water-dragon mother. She's not what anyone in her family wants her to be, and so she's working as a fire-breather and living in a tiny trailer at Mystic's Carnival. Kyra and her best friend, Sebastian, are out one night watching the stars, and Sebastian seems to be finally getting ready to tell her about himself. He's been her friend and guide, and somehow has succeeded in making her feel wanted and at home at the carnival. As he begins to speak, Kyra sees three men in the dark accosting another on a bridge. There's a splash and the men run away. Kyra can't help but dive into the water and rescue the man they had attacked.

Debra Kristi's dark romantic fantasy, The Moorigad Dragon: Age of the Hybrid Book 1, is magical and compelling. Kyra is a marvelous character whose dragon lies barely hidden beneath her skin. Her hybrid nature reveals itself in scales on her human form and a love of the taste of ashes and heat and water. Kristi tells a story of a strange triangle between Sebastian, Kyra and the rescued man, Marcus, that is charged with undercurrents of sensuality and darkness. Mystic's Carnival is a fabulous backdrop for this story, and I was pleased to see more of Higgins and the blind human, Zeke, who Kyra comes to realize are much more than the elderly men she sees around the carnival. Reading The Moorigad Dragon: Age of the Hybrid Book 1 was an intense and wondrous experience, and I found myself reading more and more slowly to keep the story going for as long as I could. It's most highly recommended.

The Moorigad Dragon is the first novella by Debra Kristi of her Age of the Hybrid series about a shape shifting dragon named Kyra. They are inhabitants of a mystic carnival that appears magically at random locations. The story begins with her and her best friend Sebastian, who is helping her with her fire breathing skills. While trying to decide whether or not to tell each other how they feel, they are interrupted by a fight taking place on the bridge above them. The fight ends with a man being tossed off the bridge after being beaten up by three assailants. Against Sebastian’s advice, Kyra pulls the man from the depths of the river before he drowns. For some reason, Kyra is drawn to this man, Marcus, because of his dragon tooth necklace, so she brings him home through the magic portal. Things begin heating up when she has to rescue him again, when her trailer is set on fire, and they fall under attack by mysterious forces. For some unknown reason, Kyra cannot unleash her dragon abilities and now both of their lives are in peril as they struggle desperately to escape.

In the introductory section welcoming you to the Mystic Carnival, I was immediately reminded of Rod Serling’s opening episode dialogs to his Twilight Zone television series. I could actually imagine hearing his voice recite Debra Kristi’s words describing the Mystic Carnival Zone that ends with, “Safe travels, weary reader.” How can you not be enticed by that? Ms. Kristi weaves her tale around Kyra, a cross breed of two different types of dragons; fire and water. Talk about opposites attract! Debra pulls out all the stops as she pours out our heroine’s thoughts, conflicting emotions and doubts as Kyra tries to come to terms with the choices of her possible destinies. The Moorigad Dragon is a journey full of intrigue, action and wonder as you escape into a world full of surprises.

The Moorigad Dragon (Age of the Hybrid Book 1) by Debra Kristi is a compelling story crafted beautifully with a good mix of mystery, adventure and fantasy. Kyra saving Marcus and protecting him causes a bit of tension between her and her friend, Sebastian. Both Kyra and Sebastian bond very well through many ways. Sebastian's presence at Mystic's Carnival makes Kyra want to stay there long term, as if she is in a real home. But then Marcus's presence causes a kind of friction in Kyra and Sebastian's relationship. Sebastian wants to protect Kyra and keep her away from Marcus. Will Sebastian be able to protect Kyra or will he find it difficult to protect her from Marcus?

The plot is woven wonderfully and the twists and turns in the story are unexpected, making readers curious and keeping them glued to the book. All three characters - Kyra, Marcus and Sebastian - are portrayed well and they are unique in their respective ways. The rest of the characters complement the main characters very well and add to the depth and fantasy element. The narration is detailed, with the supernatural elements in the plot lending the story the much required intrigue and excitement that readers will enjoy. It also takes them to another realm. The plot is refreshingly original and unique and that's what makes it an exciting story. I liked the connection with the supernatural element, which gives it a mystical and magical vibe that runs throughout the story.
