The Night of Halloween by Jessica Beaver revolves around twelve-year-old Luis. His mom wants Luis to enjoy the holiday spirit, but he dislikes ghosts, goblins, and Halloween. His friend, Matt, is wearing a werewolf costume for Halloween and now Luis thinks he is the only person who dislikes Halloween. His little sister, Amy, always plays pranks on him and this year he has thought of a plan to take revenge on her. He buys a couple of strange candles, although the store had warned him about lighting them. Luis lights them and what happens next is something he is not prepared for! Read the book to learn more about the scary experiences of Luis, Amy, and Matt!

The book is filled with suspense and will capture the interest of young readers from the beginning till the very end. The story also captures the spirit of Halloween very nicely. The illustrations are lively and they give a good pace and movement to the plot, and breathe life into the characters. It's a good bedtime storybook and can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The story is entertaining and will make readers try to imagine what will happen next. Stories like this are good for young readers to stimulate their imaginations. All the characters are well portrayed and will remain in the minds of readers for a long time. The simplicity and fluidity of expression give the story a good flow and young readers will want to finish reading it in a one go.
