Cheryl Davies's story The Perfect Potion is about two witch sisters, Astrid and Luna. Just like Elsa and Anna from Frozen, Astrid and Luna seem very different from each other. Astrid is the older sister who makes amazing magical potions. Her little sister Luna never seems to get her potions quite right. Luna asks Astrid to come and play with her, but Astrid is too busy. Luna decides to surprise her sister by concocting a potion that will make it snow outside, but instead of snow, it rains down glue! Luna tries another potion to distract her sister which ends in even more disastrous results. Luna attempts one last potion to try to become as perfect as her sister.

The Perfect Potion is a fun story about witches, magic, and sisters. The first potion that Luna attempts will make kids laugh out loud at the results. Anyone who has a sibling, but especially a sister, will easily identify with either Astrid or Luna. Siblings can be frustrating but as Cheryl Davies makes it clear, they can also be your best friend. I really loved the tenacity of little Luna; despite her failures, she keeps trying new things. The bright colorful illustrations by Jenny Yevheniia Lisovaya are full of all kinds of fun details, including, of course, Charm their little black cat. She has given each of the girls their own distinctive style. Kids who love magic will be enchanted with Astrid and Luna. The Perfect Potion is a perfect choice for sisters of all ages, especially those who believe in magic.
