The Prodigal Son is Book 11 of the Reverend Curtis Black series written by Kimberla Lawson Roby and read by Peter Jay Fernandez. In this installment, the focus is on Matthew and Dillion. Things are not going well for Matthew. His wife Racquel’s behavior is becoming increasingly unpredictable. She is ignoring their son and talking divorce. Matthew hasn’t seen his parents for over a year; he is still very upset with them over their attitude concerning his marriage. He misses them but can’t get past the way they hurt him. Dillion Whitfield is the Reverend’s oldest son. Dillion had just come into the Reverend’s life. Dillion is finding it very difficult to settle in as part of the family and he is filled with jealousy. Can the Reverend’s family be reunited?

The Prodigal Son brings the Biblical story to life with a contemporary twist. There are so many lessons to be learned from this book. Anger, jealousy, temptation and pride are the focus of this tale, along with forgiveness, humility and grace. I was quickly drawn into this story of suspense, drama and love. The plot is character driven. Raquel's behavior is erratic and she appears to be insane. Her behavior seemed rather exaggerated. Dillion and Matthew are opposites. Dillion is downright mean and Matthew is long suffering. Kimberla Lawson Roby shines light on post-partum depression in The Prodigal Son. This is the first book I’ve read by Kimberla Lawson Roby, but it won’t be the last.
