The Purple Elephant: The Journey Home (Volume 2) by Donna Gielow McFarland is a fun-filled adventure story of Prince Carmel. The Prince has completed his quest to the Unicorn mountains and he has left Princess Elena back in her castle before he heads home. The book is a continuation of the journey started in the first part, The Purple Elephant. When we thought the Prince had done with the Purple Elephant in the first part itself, we see the elephant's presence in this book as well. The story is filled with imagination and adventure and will delight young readers.

The journey with Prince Carmel, like the first book, is thrilling and filled with fun. All the characters are lovable and cheerful and the book brings a smile to the faces of readers. Children always love adventure stories because it gives them the freedom to let loose their imagination and creativity to a large extent. The humor and surprises in this story bring joy to readers. This book makes a good story for read-aloud sessions in classrooms and children's libraries. Both volumes are highly recommended for school libraries.

The adventures are lighthearted and breezy. It takes readers to a different plane where they can dream and imagine and express themselves with a lot more creativity. The Unicorn mountains, the purple elephant and castles will fascinate readers of all age groups. The simple theme is made effective by a combination of good pictures and excellent writing skills.
